PSAT which stands as an acronym for Preliminary SAT and NMSQT stands for National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a test which is standardized and controlled by the College Board and sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). The body is situated in the United States and is a very prominent test which is to be taken by high school students. A brief history of the PSAT/NMSQT test
Before 1997, the said test was mainly on verbal and math aspect and it got much weight to allow for the score of 240 points. Though in 1997, it was a bit gotten from TSWE, is Test of Standard Written English.

The score point and format of the PSAT/NMSQT test
The manner in which this test works is that a student registers for the test with the respective schools that are registered or members of the College Board. The test is made up of basically 4 sections which are critical reading, two math sections, and the writing skills section. The duration of the test is 2 hours 10 minutes accept otherwise stated. All the sections are supposed to be on a score scale of 20 to 80 points and add up to a score on a maximum of 240 points. Though different format for the test was in place earlier like in the year 2005, the PSAT did not take higher level math. Also, the essay in the writing part was joined with the SAT. The range of score for each of the sections was from 160 to 760 which add up to a score of 1520. Though the National Merit Scholarship Corporation takes the sore and places it on a scale of 8 to 38. When this is completed, it adds them and inputs a new range which is from 48 to 228 points.
